Annual Report

First and foremost, Thank you to each and every one of you.  This club could not function without your participation.  Dividing the club by valley location has provided opportunity and aside from the travel, made the club effective for all members.
One hard fast observation to leadership.  If you turn around and no one is following, you are not leading.  I have had awesome support members in all endeavors.
Araxi:  A special thanks for all you have done for this club.  Your passion has kept it alive through some pretty rough times.  It is that passion that I admire.  Your willingness to lead wherever needed, stepping up to teach and make all arrangements necessary for the club to continue and succeed.  You display passion for the Art.
Julia:  Stepping into the role of secretary.  Some pretty demanding shoes to occupy.  You do all the work, literally, all the work.  You make things happen:  Reminders, ideas, shopping around for deals.  And humor.  Your meeting announcements often bring a smile to my face and a feeling that you care for each of us as you encourage us to attend meetings
Pat, Susan and Don:  What I would deem as charter members.  Thanks for your efforts to constantly be at meetings.  I choose to recognize your support and efforts to attend all the meetings in spite of health issues.  Your value to the club is recognized.
Observations:
  1. change in name (Scottsdale Bonsai to Scottsdale and Eastern Valley Bonsai Society).  Although we are very much the Scottsdale Bonsai Society, we have encompassed the East Valley and repurposed our name to include this expansion
  2. We have secured a perpetual meeting place and sponsorship with the Summer Winds Nurseries on Tatum Blvd (1st Saturday of each month) and Arizona Ave (3rd Saturday of each month).  This joint venture allows members in various locations to attend a meeting near them.
  3. New Nursery discounts:  Summer Winds, Cactus Nursery on Az. Ave south of 202, and Tree Land.  Please present your membership card
  4. Workshops:  Adeniums with Tom Gatz;  Scheffleras; and observation at Ted Matson’s Workshop with the Phoenix Bonsai Club
  5. Membership:  New cards, increased membership and a permanent display board with our name and logo (same logo on business cards), business cards
  6. Newsletter format
  7. Program and teaching schedule out for the year
  8. New offices:  Sensei (a teacher) and Historical group
Many of our accomplishments are the result of dedication on the part of our membership to improve and grow our club.  Your involvement and encouragement are the force that drives this club forward.  It is my hope that we continue to improve and grow, relying on each-other’s strengths.  We can no longer stand still and rely on others to do all the work.  Be a voice and resource to grow us into a premier club encouraging the development of all Bonsai enthusiasts.
We are not all inclusive.  I would hope that we begin 2020 anew, working along-side the Phoenix and Tucson clubs to further interest in the hobby and encourage mutual participation in many events and meetings.  We cannot foster isolation or competition with each other.  We are encouraged by knowledge and practice.  Many people contribute and can contribute to the furthering of this art.
